Navigating the nuances of gender and the ever-changing language around identity can be challenging. In ELA classrooms, teachers can explore these changing terms through story. In this generative writing workshop, participants will read short stories written by LGBTQ people, craft their own narratives, and discuss the challenges around using neo-pronouns and they/them as a singular. Through writing prompts, instruction, and shared conversations around the work created, participants will gently learn how to find more LGBTQ inclusive texts and how to facilitate discussions around the subject.
