Unleash your students' creativity as they capture the mesmerizing beauty of the Northern Lights, create stunning Alberta landscape using a 1-point perspective, and bring vibrant watermelon or pumpkin still to life. The difficulty level can be tailored to suit the grade level being taught. By the end, you'll have three completed projects and access to step-by-step instructional PowerPoint presentations and links to the YouTube instructional videos. This workshop has a $10 art supply fee for all grade levels. Get ready to ignite your students' passion for art!

Sample one of ArtVentures' most popular in-school field trips! Put yourself in your students' shoes as you get comfortable using watercolour paints, and experiment with a relief printmaking technique. Together, we will create a vibrant, one of a kind mixed media landscape. On top of allowing you to put yourself in your students’ shoes, this session is also a wonderful opportunity for you to build confidence in your own creativity, and tap into all the wonderful research-backed benefits of art making. In this afternoon session (½ day; 2 hours 20 minutes), we will: Make a completed 5x7” artwork Experiment with watercolour techniques Investigate the relief printmaking process Dive into challenges, pros, and cons of bringing these two media into your classroom Build confidence and skill in your creative practice Share insight on best practices and tips to prolong the life of your art materials Create valuable classroom resources to help you plan and execute watercolour lessons with confidence This field trip was developed with Division II students in mind, but is adaptable for all grades and abilities. Paint & Print is available as an in-school experience in both French and English. Please e-transfer your supply fee to emma@artventures.ca at the time of registration to secure your spot. Cash payment at the door will be available on a first come, first served basis.

Activism Through Art: Four Projects to Engage Students in Social Change Using Skateboards, Protest Music and Street Art

This session will give participants a synopsis of four engaging school based projects that students completed through various grant initiatives with a social justice focus. Project one details include having students create an art piece using skateboard decks as a canvas to engage and invoke a conversation around poverty and homelessness in youth. Project two included the writing, recording and performance of a protest song; “Scream For Change”. Project three included students using various “street art” techniques to raise awareness of a chosen social justice issue and the fourth project learn how students formed a band and put out a 7” record. Participants will walk away with resources and ideas to implement their own social justice themed projects in their school, social studies or art classroom.
