Math Catch Up for Grades 4-6

Come prepared to play games that integrate the use of dice, math shakers and multi-sided dice and that help engage your students and help build meaningful practice for the following concepts: addition and multiplication fact fluency, multi-digit addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, mixed operations and order of operations. Games are easy to differentiate, allow for math talks and can be used whole class, small groups or in center instruction. Gameboards, concept skill checklists for assessment will be provided. COME PREPARED TO PLAY!

Playing With Words – Upper Elementary Literacy Games for Grades 4-6 and ELL

Are you looking for engaging and effective ways to help your upper elementary students gain confidence and competence with key reading, writing and comprehension concepts? Throughout the session participants will have opportunities to play literacy and vocabulary games, learn how to differentiate the activities, how to develop extensions, and how to use the game activities for assessment purposes. Student samples, gameboards, ideas for whole/small group instruction will be provided. Interspersed will be practical ideas for classroom organization and management to ensure effective implementation of games as a teaching strategy. Participants will be able to implement what they learn the next day in their classrooms and schools. Come prepared to play literacy games that incorporate the use of cards, dice, alphabet dice, letter tiles and other easily found literacy manipulatives. Concepts covered include: • Review of Phonics, Word Families and Sight Words • Reading and Writing Strategies • Effective use of Adjectives and Adverbs • Parts of Speech • Questioning strategies An extensive handout with games and gameboards will be available for download.

KINDER COUNTS - OH THE MATH THEY NEED TO KNOW! Early Primary Math Games and Strategies

Come prepared to play my favorite math games and learn strategies that focus on the following concepts: counting to 5, 10, 20, counting forward and back from a given number, using number lines to count with patterns, comparing numbers and quantity, make 5, 10, doubles strategies. This very basic workshop will help you build K concepts that lay the foundation for Grade 1/2 operational fluency and place value concepts. All games can be used whole class or in small groups/center and are easy to differentiate to meet the needs of all students. Games will integrate this use of cards, dice, number lines. Handout will contain gameboards and assessment skill checklists. If you have struggling primary grade 1- 3 students or ELL, this workshop will help you rebuild concepts. CONNECTING THE DOTS - DOMINO MATH GAMES FOR DIFFERENTIATING MATH PRACTICE

Dominoes are one of the most versatile and easiest math manipulatives to use in your whole class, small group or centers. They are also a student favorite. Come prepared to play games that teach and help your elementary students practice the following concepts: numeration and number sense, early operational fluency for + and -, Multiplication, multi-digit operations, place value, graphing and more. Throughout the workshop you will receive ideas and strategies for differentiating the games to meet the needs of all learning, ideas for management, and journals. Handout will contain gameboards for use Monday morning. Games would also be great Family Math Games Night!

In this math games workshop you will learn the best activities and games for developing a cross graded math game buddy program. Come as a team - primary and upper elementary and learn games that engage and empower all learners. The benefit for older students include relearning basic concepts (especially great for new ELL learners), instructing younger students who benefit from 1on one teaching. For our primary students they have their own "math coach" and build relationships across the grade levels. After an overview of how we teach cross graded game classes, participants will learn a wide variety of games: a primary level and then a related/differentiated upper elementary game. Handout will contain favorite games and gameboards to help you develop this powerful 1 X week strategy. COME PREPARED TO PLAY!

PLAY ON WORDS - PRIMARY LITERACY GAMES FOR SMALL GROUP AND CENTER INSTRUCTION

We know brains learn best through PLAY. Come prepared to play literacy games that incorporate easy to find manipulatives including letter tiles, word decks, literacy dice and dollar store finds. Games and strategies will focus on: learning the alphabet and its' sounds, rhyme and word patterns, spelling simple CVC words, vocabulary boosters, work with vowels and blends. The activities are easy to differentiate and can be used whole class, small group or in centers, can be adapted for intervention and used for assessment purposes. Perfect for home play. If you have lots of ELL students, this is a great session to get some engaging activities to implement into your literacy program. Handout will contain gameboards for immediate use.

Quick Collaboration - Humanities Essential Academic Terms and Skills (HEATS) in Junior High

This learning session is designed to help encourage collaboration between English and Social Studies in an easy way which requires only brief planning time. The goal is to support teachers to engage their students in the understanding and competency of fifteen common skills and terms found in the Junior High Humanities curricula. The HEATS project addresses essential skill-building by providing clarity to these terms/skills for all learners and by engaging them in meaningful opportunities to practice and develop the skills. The goal of the learning session is to introduce you to some resources and strategies that you can use in your classroom and share with others in the Humanities departments to support student learning and critical thinking across subject areas.

Junior High Math – It’s More Than A Game

Enjoy learning what your students will enjoy learning by playing and learn a variety of math games which focus on junior high math concepts like comparing decimals, percent, fractions and ratios including some simple operations, understanding integers including some operations, plotting points and graphing in 4 quadrants, collecting data and displaying and interpreting the data in charts and graphs, relationships between probability and chance. The games and strategies are easy to implement with simple cards and dice and management strategies will be modeled by the presenter throughout the session. An extensive downloadable handout with games, gameboards, follow up activities and assessment tools will be made available. The games and strategies presented will help students learn and master junior high math concepts without burdening teachers with additional preparation and planning. Learn how junior high math can be more than just a game.
